Level 1 Plumbing Certificate

Course Overview:

This course is designed to give an understanding of household plumbing and the basic knowledge required to gain employment within the plumbing industry.

Who is this training course for?

This course is aimed at both male and female candidates aged 16 years or above who wish to gain an understanding of basic household plumbing in order to seek employment within the plumbing industry or who wish to progress to higher level qualifications.  There are no set requirements to enrol on this course.

Course Duration:

The duration of this course varies from 8 days to 16 weeks depending on your chosen mode of attendance:

2 evening per week - 6.00pm to 9.00pm (16 weeks)
1 day per week - 9.00am to 4.00pm (8 weeks)
Weekdays - 9.00am to 4.00pm (8 day block)

Topic Areas Covered:

This course covers all of the principles and practical aspects of domestic plumbing including pipe bending and jointing, knowledge of plumbing systems, pipe fabrication (copper, plastic and steel), cold and hot water systems, domestic central heating systems, sanitation and drainage and health and safety.

  • J/602/2479 - Understand and carry out safe working practices in Building Service Engineering
  • J/602/2482 - Understand how to communicate with others in Building Service Engineering
  • D/602/2486 - Understand how to apply environmental protection measures with Building Service Engineering
  • Y/502/8180 - Understand fundamental scientific principles with Building Service Engineering
  • K/505/9403 - Understand and carry out copper pipe fabrication work for domestic plumbing systems
  • K/505/9417 - Understand and carry out low carbon steel pipe fabrication work for domestic plumbing systems
  • M/505/9418 - Understand and carry out plastic pipe fabrication work for domestic plumbing systems
  • K/505/9420 - Understand the key features of domestic plumbing systems
  • T/505/9419 - Understand and demonstrate techniques for installing and securing plumbing pipe work.

Training and Assessment methods:

Candidates will be assessed both practically and theoretically throughtout the course

Course Achievements:

Successful candidates will receive BPEC Level 1 National Award in Plumbing certification

Progression Routes (following successful completion of this course):

Successful candidates will be able to progress onto further qualifications including Level 2 Plumbing Foundation Diploma, NVQ Level 2 Plumbing Diploma and / or Gas Foundation Diploma.  Successful candidates will also be able to seek employment within the plumbing industry.
